One of the hardest things for a automaker to do is to improve on perfection, especially when that perfection contributes 1/5 of all cars sold by that automaker. This, along with the cost of mass production is why car makers have Mid Year minor model changes, it allows them to make subtle adjustments to their winning formula. For any car manufacturer, the biggest fear/risk is the full model change. This is when they introduce the "ALL NEW" version of that great car we have come to love.
What most car makers try to do when introducing a new car is improve their current design enough that it keeps up or surpasses the trends of design and technology, whilst maintaining the attention of current owners and attracting new fans of the brand. Considering the vast amounts of money that is spent in Research and Development, a full model change that does not meet expectations from a sales standpoint is viewed as a disaster. Luckily for Mercedes Benz, the new C-Class is able to utilize some of the sensational tech and styling notes from the S-Class, making it a true contender for the 2014 Car of The Year.
