There are two streams of technology that have gained rapid momentum since the draft of the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) regulations has trickled through the R&D centers of the automotive industry.
The first stream of technology led auto makers to begin finding ways of increasing the vehicle efficiency by using lighter materials, utilizing direct injection and turbo chargers to achieve a higher average fuel economy standard for the fleet of vehicles. Some might say the regulations forced the auto industry to begin thinking outside of the box; using lighter stronger materials, fine tuning tire design so that the rolling resistance is low but stopping distance is not compromised. One of the latest technologies that will surely help increase the fuel efficiency of your future car, is the traffic signal awareness system developed by Audi.
