Cnet Waves The Signal Of Efficient Driving

There are two streams of technology that have gained rapid momentum since the draft of the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) regulations has trickled through the R&D centers of the automotive industry. The first stream of technology led auto makers to begin finding ways of increasing the vehicle efficiency by using lighter materials, utilizing direct injection and turbo chargers to achieve a higher average fuel economy standard for the fleet of vehicles. With the second wave of technology we find auto makers really relying on technology to assist in going that extra mile, navigation systems that quickly route you around traffic, led lights that use less energy to run but operate at twice the efficiency.
Some might say the regulations forced the auto industry to begin thinking outside of the box; using lighter stronger materials, fine tuning tire design so that the rolling resistance is low but stopping distance is not compromised. But for many innovative minds, this slight push is exactly what the auto industry needed. One of the latest technologies that will surely help increase the fuel efficiency of your future car, is the traffic signal awareness system developed by Audi. A system that can tell you how long a light will remain red, a system that uses this info to awake your car start-stop feature, a system that lets you know how fast to drive so that you do not have to stop at a light, is by far one of the best ways to increase efficiency and reduce vehicle maintencence cost due to reduce braking.
