iMoformation Friday: Spoilers and Rear Wings

Spoilers and Rear Wings play a significant role in allowing our beloved Supercars to achieve their maximum performance, they are also used to add some flare to our family sedans. But how these two components work and what exactly they do are a mystery to most of us. The average person that attaches a Spoiler or Rear Wing to their car may not fully understand how these components affect the overall performance of the car.
Depending on the size and the angle of attack of the Spoiler or Rear Wing, there could be significant increases in downforce which may be the drivers intention but there could also be a major drawback in the form of drag which could affect the car fuel consumption rate. Like most things in life, it is recommended that you at least have some understanding of it before you try it.
