To diesel or not to diesel that is the question: 2014 Porsche Cayenne Diesel

For many car buyers the decision of purchasing a vehicle that runs on diesel has never crossed their mind. This is primarily because diesel has never been viewed as a luxury fuel, if there is such a thing. The result is that diesel is primarily being used in vehicles such as freight trucks and construction vehicles. In order to change the mindset of the consumer with respect to purchasing a vehicle that runs on diesel, the appeal factor had to change, the image of the container being used to store the diesel had to change, diesel needed to be placed in beautiful vessels capable of attracting new customers and removing any negative connotation associated with this noisy form of producing tons of torque.
Luckily for diesel lovers, automakers such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi have been hard at work trying to enhance the appeal of diesel. The latest automaker to make advancements in the diesel sector has been Porsche, for 2014 Porsche has recently released the new Porsche Cayenne diesel which features an 8 speed automatic transmission that is capable of achieving 68 mpg with a 600 mile range. The engine the Cayenne uses is a 3L turbocharged V6 making 240 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Matt Farah of Test/Drive, drove the Cayenne diesel and analyzed all of its pros and cons, discussing how it compares to many of its main competitors from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and VW. Check it out.
